Terms of Service

These terms cover using Zaelar — both the source-available engine you can self-host, and Zaelar Cloud, the hosted version we run for you. By creating an account or using Zaelar Cloud, you agree to them.

Who runs Zaelar

Zaelar is currently operated directly, ahead of forming a company — the plan is to incorporate in the United States once Zaelar Cloud is generating real revenue. Billing runs from Spain today, so a charge on your statement may show a Spain origin even though the company being formed is a US one; that's expected, not an error. These Terms will be updated to name the entity once it's registered — until then, "we"/"us" refers to the Zaelar project.

The service

Zaelar is a personal voice-and-text AI agent. Self-hosted, it runs entirely on your own machine with your own API keys, under its Sustainable Use License (see the GitHub repository) — we have no visibility into or responsibility for a self-hosted instance. Zaelar Cloud is a hosted instance we run for you, metered by "Energy" (see Billing below).

Your account

You need a real email address and you're responsible for keeping your password safe — tell us if you think someone else has access to your account. You must be able to legally agree to these terms (an adult, or with a parent/guardian's consent where your local law requires it).

Acceptable use

Use Zaelar for yourself, lawfully. Don't use it to break the law, harm or harass anyone, try to break its security, or resell/share access to your account. We can suspend or close an account that clearly violates this.

Billing & Energy

New accounts get a one-time welcome gift of Energy, free. Beyond that, Zaelar Cloud runs on Energy: a monthly subscription grants a recurring amount, or you can buy a one-off Energy pack — either way, Energy never expires once granted. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel from your account page; a one-off Energy purchase is a single charge, not refundable except where the law requires it. Prices can change; we won't apply a change to Energy you've already bought.

Cancelling & closing your account

Cancel a subscription any time from your account — you keep any Energy already granted, you just stop being charged going forward. Closing your account is separate and immediate: it destroys your agent's hosted instance and everything stored in it, and cannot be undone.

Availability

We're an early-stage product. We work to keep Zaelar Cloud reliable, but at this stage we don't promise a specific uptime, and the service can change as we improve it.

Your content, our software

What you say to your agent, and anything it creates for you, is yours. The Zaelar software, brand, and Zaelar Cloud infrastructure are ours (or our licensors', for the third-party parts under their own license). The engine's source is public under the Sustainable Use License: you may self-host and modify it for your own personal or internal use, but not sell it or offer it as a commercial service.

Your data, your instance

Every Zaelar Cloud account runs on its own dedicated machine and its own database — never shared with any other account. We don't monitor, read, or use what you say to your agent or what it remembers for you. The one exception is entirely your choice: if you use the feedback button and check the box to attach your current session's activity, that session's data — and only that session — is sent to us to help diagnose what you reported. No warranty, limited liability

Zaelar Cloud is provided as-is. An AI agent can get things wrong — don't rely on it alone for anything where being wrong would seriously cost you (medical, legal, financial or safety decisions), and double-check anything important it does on your behalf. We work to keep your instance secure (see our Security page), but no online service can guarantee against every possible unauthorized access, and we don't control what happens to your data once it leaves our systems through your own actions (e.g. sharing a result yourself). To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages — including those arising from a security incident — and our liability for anything else is capped at what you paid us in the past 12 months.

Ending this agreement

You can close your account whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that violates these terms, or stop offering Zaelar Cloud altogether with reasonable notice.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product and the business behind it evolve — the date above will always say when. Continuing to use Zaelar Cloud after a change means you accept it.
